Revenge Porn Helpline and Online Bullying

I was searching through the Flipboard on my phone the other day when I came across this article that was well worth a share:

Government launches revenge porn helpline

I’ve heard stories about people having problems being outed online and having their photos and videos posted as acts of revenge and it must be the worst feeling.

Nothing on the internet ever dies, it takes on a life of its own and you have to be so careful who you decide to share your intimate photos and videos with.

It’s good to see that the government is starting to take the threat of the internet seriously and protect the victims of internet hate.

It is a relatively new problem but one the government has until now been slow to help combat.

The internet is too big to be policed totally but if people do their best to police their area it could be a better and more safe place for all.

The other side of it is internet bullying and this article is well written on the subject:

Internet Bullying: How Would You Feel?

People often come across as brave or just having a laugh on the internet or even worse using the phrase ‘banter’.

Feeling as though they can say what they like about who they want from the safety of the own room.

If you add ‘banter’ after it you can say what you like, and if they react badly then you can say ‘banter’ and it will all just go away.

I guess they think they will never get caught and they are invincible but you have to wonder why they would bother going to such lengths to bully someone online.

There is so much more you could be doing with your life and the internet than hunting down people you don’t like just to waste your own time harassing them.

I’ve observed people go out of their way to find, follow and abuse people online and watched people retweet them like a badge of honour.

It isn’t big, it isn’t clever and there is so much more you can be doing with your life. If you don’t like someone or agree with how they live their lives just get on with yours and leave them to it.

Maybe then we can all be a bit happier and the internet will be a much nicer place for everyone.
